Extremely late to the party (well, three days is totally late in internet-time) to say I agree. I have attempted to read him, failed, but bits in isolation are amazing. (I actually feel a bit like this with "Lolita", except I did get a good 2/3rds of the way through that before the insanely beautiful writing couldn't sustain me any more in the face of the actual story).
P.S. almost certainly going to steal some quotes to reblargh on tumblr!
Heh, I have books like that all over the place. The writing is gorgeous in places but I just couldn't keep at it. Gratuitous use of the word 'savages' probably.
Also, I saw some of this crop up on Tumblr before I saw your comment, so I was like, ". . . wait a minute."
Heh, CREEP AWAY. I used to have - like everyone else, I'm sure - this notebook full of handwritten quotations from everything that I loved. This is way less messy.
I sort of resent what it's done to my already incredibly shaky attention span, but at the same time, it's nice to "what shall I do? oh contemplate my life-- NO, INSTEAD, I WILL REBLOG A THOUSAND POSTS ABOUT DEEP SEA FISH. OR ATTRACTIVE PEOPLE."
